Report: Kings owner Vivek Ranadive “frustrated” with George Karl’s lobbying for DeMarcus Cousins trade

As if it wasn’t already enough of a disaster, the Kings/DeMarcus Cousins situation just took another hilarious turn with a new report from the Sacramento Bee‘s Jason Jones, indicating that owner Vivek Ranadive and head coach George Karl aren’t on the same page about whether or not to trade Cousins.

This is just a bad look for everybody. Karl has a 30-year track record of wanting to be involved in player personnel decisions as a head coach. It was impossibly naive for Ranadive to expect that he’d be content to keep his hands off that side of things when he took the job in February. It’s also a little staggering how much they’ve screwed up this entire situation. You have a 24-year-old franchise center who wants to be there, which is almost impossible to come by for a small-market team like Sacramento, and you’re actively alienating him to the point of wanting a trade. They may have just signed Karl to a four-year deal, but if it comes down to a choice between Karl and Cousins, you take the young star who’s under contract for three more years.
