LeBron says he had “slight headache” after run-in with camera

CLEVELAND — LeBron James eventually needed stitches to close the cut on his forehead from that fall into the cameramen along the baseline.

“Enough to close it up,” LeBron said when asked how many. He played the rest of the game after the cut was glued shut, then got the stitches postgame.

Still, he felt the effects, but he did not go through the league’s concussion protocol.

“No, I didn’t have to go through any concussion protocol,” LeBron said postgame. “I had a slight headache, which I think every last one of you guys would probably have if you ran into a camera. You might have a little bit more than that. But I didn’t go through any protocol. I’m fine. Like I said, I got a few stitches and I got a little slight headache right now, but I’ll be fine with that.”

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver ESPN this appeared be only a surface cut.

I’m not a doctor, I did not examine LeBron postgame, and in his press conference he did seem fine sitting there talking. I have no idea how LeBron feels.

However, a headache is one of the signs of a concussion. It will be interesting to see if LeBron does get tested in the window between games four and five.

That determination is made by the team doctor. He is going to do what is in the best interest of LeBron (or at least he is supposed to). More than likely even if he were tested they would not find the signs of a concussion, as LeBron said a headache after a hit on the head is not uncommon. But should he be tested?

This is another of the tough gray areas when dealing with gray matter injuries, something that has been put in the spotlight these playoffs.
