Marreese Speights sprained his calf in the Warriors’ second-round series against the Grizzlies.
He missed the entire conference finals, but good news for Golden State entering the NBA Finals.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr, via Monte Poole of CSN Bay Area:
“Mo’s good. He’s good to go,” Steve Kerr declared on Tuesday. “He’s had two good practices. He will more than likely play in this series. Just a question of how the rotations unfold, the matchups, that kind of stuff.”
Speights has a nice mid-range jumper, and he could help the Warriors off the bench. His floor spacing as a big man stretches defenses.
But Festus Ezeli has played very well against the Rockets, and he might have passed Speights in the pecking order. Ezeli is better-suited to challenge Tristan Thompson and Timofey Mozgov on the glass. Plus, Ezeli won’t have to work himself back into game shape.
At minimum, Speights and Ezeli give the Warriors different looks. The NBA’s most versatile team is even more versatile.
