Well, the Bulls can see that stubbornness and raise more of their own.
In fact, there’s growing concern that’s just what will happen.
Marc Stein of ESPN:
I don’t know whether the Bulls would actually do that, but it’s believable – which is a shame. It’s a shame Bulls management, Gar Forman and John Paxson, and Thibodeau can’t get on the same page. Both sides are good at their jobs, and this could have been a productive working relationship.
Instead, there are repeated accusations of them spiting each other.
Would the Bulls really settle for leftovers after the Pelicans, Magic and Nuggets hire their preferred candidates? If Chicago wants Fred Hoiberg or someone else not on the radar of the other three teams, maybe it would work out OK. But it’s not certain Hoiberg would leave Iowa State for the NBA.
Thibodeau’s people have been pessimistic throughout the season, though they haven’t been proven misguided. As long as the Bulls keep slow-playing this situation – for whatever reason – it makes Thibodeau look like more of a victim.
