Kyrie Irving says he ‘absolutely’ could’ve played through injury if game were close

Kyrie Irving left the Cavaliers’ Game 6 win over the Bulls with a left-knee injury.

With several days off before the Eastern Conference finals – which begin Wednesday, regardless of how long the Hawks and Wizards need to finish their series – Irving says he’ll be fine.

Really, he says he’s already ready to go.

Chris Haynes of Cleveland.com:

“Absolutely,” Irving said when asked if he would have returned had the game been close. “Without a doubt. It crossed my mind, but we were up by 14.”

Irving insists he will be ready for Game 1 of the ECF

I don’t doubt Irving’s resolve. While battling injury throughout the playoffs, he has said he’d rather play at reduced effectiveness than not play at all.

But we’ll have to see how Irving’s knee responds to him sitting.

Still, Wednesday gives him a good amount of time to recover – and the Cavaliers will likely need him in the next round. Matthew Dellavedova can’t do it himself every game.
