In the fourth quarter of Game 5 between the Bulls and Cavs, Matthew Dellavedova and Taj Gibson got into an altercation as they dove for a loose ball. Dellavedova locked up Gibson’s leg between his own, and Gibson made a kicking motion to get free, followed by a heated exchange between the two teams.
Following video review, Gibson was ejected; Dellavedova received no penalty.
It’s unclear whether Gibson’s kick was intentional or just an attempt to get free himself from Dellavedova’s leg lock. Whether or not Gibson should have been ejected, Dellavedova should have at least received a technical for locking up Gibson’s legs. The most appropriate solution would have simply been double technicals for the two players.
