There had been some hope around UCLA that freshman forward Kevon Looney would return to school.
UCLA freshman forward Kevon Looney has plans to declare for the 2015 NBA Draft and is closing a representation agreement, sources told RealGM.
Looney has a strong chance to go in the lottery.
A combo forward, he has NBA size – 6-foot-10 and a 7-foot-3 wingspan – with good, though not great, athleticism. He has shown quality skills with ball-handling, distributing and outside shooting.
He also picks his spots, leaving some questions about how skilled he really is at this point. Can he dribble through traffic? Can he make pinpoint passes against tight defenses? Can he maintain his 42 percent 3-point shooting if he were asked to score more?
The indicators are positive, but Looney just hasn’t done all that consistently yet. He’s just 19, so there’s time for him to get comfortable in a bigger role, which is why someone will likely take him in the top half of the first round.
