Kelly Olynyk is Canadian.
No, I mean Kelly Olynyk is CANADIAN.
He conducted his postgame interview yesterday wearing a Toronto Blue Jays hat, and he’s clearly into hockey.
Olynyk scored 19 points in the Celtics’ win over the Pacers, playing through this shiner:
Why did Olynyk defy Brad Stevens’ expectations and play through the injury?
Olynyk, via Jimmy Toscano of CSN New England:
“I remember two days ago I was texting Dougie Hamilton and he told me he broke his ribs and he’s trying to come back before the playoffs,” Olynyk said. “I was like, ‘Man I can’t sit out, he’s gonna rip me’ . . . all those hockey guys would have killed me so I had to do it.”
That’s a nice, though sentiment, but one problem:
It wasn’t publicly known Hamilton, a Boston Bruins defenseman, had broken ribs. The Bruins, as hockey teams do to prevent opponents from targeting the trouble area, had described it only as an upper-body injury. In fact, speculation was a shoulder injury.
Hamilton has missed the Bruins’ last five games. When he returns, he can expect a few extra hits to the ribs – thanks to Olynyk.
I expect Olynyk to do the Canadian thing and politely apologize.
