Reports: Kings’ Darren Collison to have surgery, likely done for season

We told you this might be coming. Now Bill Herenda of has the details — it looks like Kings’ point guard Darren Collison is done for the season.

Sacramento Kings point guard Darren Collison will see Dr. William Meyers on Monday in Philadelphia for a consultation; surgery is likely to occur on Tuesday to repair a core muscle injury, according to a source close to the situation…

On Tuesday, Collison was examined by a specialist in Los Angeles regarding his right hip flexor strain and has yet to play for new Kings coach George Karl.

Sacramento says he would be evaluated again between three and six weeks after the surgery. Let’s be realistic here: They are not bringing him back this season. They are not going to rush him back from an injury so he can play three games for George Karl at the end of a lost season.

Karl had this to say:

Collison has sat out the last seven games for the Kings. Without Collison, it will mean more Ray McCallum and Andre Miller.
