Chandler Parsons: James Harden is midseason MVP

I see three legitimate candidates for midseason NBA MVP: Stephen Curry, James Harden and Anthony Davis. I’d rank them in that order, and see a pretty big drop after them.

But to each his own. Mavericks forward Chandler Parsons has a different view, and he’s taking James harden.

Tim MacMahon of ESPN:

If Chandler Parsons had a midseason MVP vote, it would go to former teammate James Harden.

“For sure. He’s the best player in basketball right now,” Parsons said before his Dallas Mavericks fell 99-94 to Harden’s Houston Rockets on Wednesday night. “The things he’s doing are incredible. The scouting report is focused in on stopping him and you see he’s still getting 30 a game. It’s impressive.”

This is probably just Parsons supporting a friend more than anything.

But I’d like to think of it as Parsons trying to undermine his former team after a somewhat messy departure. If the Warriors stay focused on the Rockets getting – and giving themselves – credit, maybe that gives Dallas an opening to pull an upset if they’re matched in the playoffs.

Parsons probably doesn’t have that type of foresight and willingness to scheme, though. Or does he?
