D-League call ups: Spurs to sign JaMychal Green, Kings to sign Quincy Miller to 10-day contracts

The annual D-League Showcase is taking place right now in beautiful Santa Cruz, California, (home of the Banana Slugs), which is a chance to bring all the D-League talent into one location for scouts and GMs to see, and to facilitate some signings.

Either it’s working or there are some nice coincidences.

The Spurs are about to sign JaMychal Green to a 10-day contract, while the Kings will do the same for Quincy Miller, according to multiple reports.

Green is a 6’8″ forward out of Alabama who has played the last two seasons with the Austin of the D-League. This season he is averaging 23 points a game on 58.5 percent shooting, plus pulling down 10.5 rebounds a game, and he has impressed the trusted eyes of the San Antonio Spurs, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.

Quincy Miller is very athletic, and that will keep getting a guy chances.

After tearing up the D-League for 13 games — 25.6 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, with a ridiculous PER of 29 — the Sacramento Kings have reached a deal to sign former Denver Nugget Miller to a 10-day contract. This was first reported by Shams Charania of Real GM and has since been confirmed by multiple other sources.

Miller was projected as a 3-and-D guy at the NBA level but hasn’t developed those skills — his defense hasn’t been great and he is a career 31.6 percent shooter from three. While Miller shot better than 50 percent overall on playing for the Reno Bighorns this season he is still shooting just 32 percent from three. He was getting his buckets thanks to that athleticism.

We’ll see if he has developed enough to stick at the next level now, Sacramento is certainly a roster where he could fit in, use that athleticism and get a chance.

With both Green and Miller the teams can offer them a second 10-day contract after the first one is done, but after that the team has to make a call on them for the rest of the season.
