Knicks make it official, waive all three players acquired in trade that sent J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert to Cavaliers

The Knicks traded J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert to the Cavaliers on Monday, as part of a three-team deal with the Thunder that sent Dion Waiters to Oklahoma City.

Technically, the Knicks received three players in the trade themselves. But as expected, none of them will play a single game for New York this season.

From Knicks PR:

January 7 – The New York Knickerbockers have waived forwards Lou Amundson and Lance Thomas and center Alex Kirk.

This was merely a salary dump for the Knicks, one that will give them an additional $7 million or so in salary cap room to spend on free agents this summer.
