LeBron James sounded as if he were telling Dwyane Wade they’d team back up, but LeBron promptly shot down the idea his comments had anything to do with basketball.
That doesn’t completely close the door on LeBron leaving the Cavaliers. That response covered just LeBron returning to the Heat (or Wade signing with with Cleveland).
What about the report LeBron would make the best business option, even that meant leaving the Cavaliers? That wasn’t tied to Wade at all.
LeBron, via Joe Vardon of Northeast Ohio Media Group:
“I’m here to build, build something great in the present and the future, and that’s the reason I’m back,” James said, prior to the Cavaliers’ 96-80 home loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, the second straight game he’s missed because of a sore left knee.
“I’ve got no other reason to have to continue to talk about things that’s so outlandish. So, I’m here, this is where I’ll be, and this is where I’m comfortable,” he said.
When LeBron signed off on the Sports Illustrated letter, in which he said he was coming home and professed his love for Northeast Ohio, he committed to the Cavaliers for the rest of his career. He must have realized – and come to terms with – that.
This season surely hasn’t gone how LeBron expected, but he’s stuck with the hand he was dealt. There’s just no way for him to spin leaving again, and I’m sure he knows that.
