Kyrie Irving to miss second straight game, out Sunday vs. Pistons

Kyrie Irving aggravated a previous knee injury during the Christmas Day matchup in Miami, and was a late scratch for his team’s Friday night win in Orlando over the Magic.

Cavaliers head coach David Blatt told reporters before tip-off of Sunday’s home contest against the Pistons that Irving will be sidelined a second straight game.

From Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com:

David Blatt says Kyrie Irving (L knee contusion) is still sore and won’t play vs. DET. He “hopes” Irving will be available Tues in ATL

The injury doesn’t appear to be too severe, and the cautious approach is probably the way to go, especially against a softer portion of the schedule.

But if this is something that ends up lingering, it could further delay the Cavaliers coming together from a chemistry standpoint to truly realize all that preseason potential.

Irving is averaging 20.2 points and 5.3 assists in 37.9 minutes per contest for Cleveland this season.
