Report: Earl Clark, despite contract talks with Lakers, signing in China

Earl Clark, who’d been negotiating a contract with the Lakers, won’t be headed to Los Angeles any time soon.

Not unless he’s in town for a connecting flight.

Marc Stein of ESPN:

Former Los Angeles Lakers forward Earl Clark, after recent talks to return to the Lakers, is signing a lucrative deal in China instead, according to league sources.

Sources told on Tuesday that Clark is in the process of finalizing his release from the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA D-League to make the move to China to join the Shandong Lions.

The Chinese season ends in February, so Clark could still join an NBA team after that. Really, though, I doubt he’d bolt for China if an NBA offer were on the table now. He’ll have to play well in China to generate interest upon his return.

In the meantime, if the Lakers are looking for a free-agent addition, I know one player who’s interested.
