Kobe Bryant hit double-digits in three major statistical categories against Pistons tonight.
Another triple-double? Not quite.
Kobe finished with 12 points, 13 assists and 10 turnovers.
The NBA doesn’t reward players for committing turnovers. The hunt for triple-doubles contains enough folly as is.
But Kobe got what I like to call a faux triple-double – a double-double plus 10 turnovers – and it gives him another dubious record. Here’s the faux triple-double leaderboard since 1985-86, as far back as Basketball-Reference records date:
- Kobe Bryant, 3
- Hakeem Olajuwon, 3
- Clyde Drexler, 2
- Jason Kidd, 2
- Karl Malone, 2
- Steve Nash, 2
- Scottie Pippen, 2
Kobe tying the record is a tribute to his longevity, sustained large role and failure to give a damn about efficiency.
