Craig Sager nearing TNT return after battle with leukemia

The entire NBA world has missed Craig Sager for over six months. The beloved TNT sideline reporter was forced to miss the entire 2014 playoffs after being diagnosed with leukemia. Tributes rolled in during the postseason from the likes of Spurs coach Gregg Popovich and Sager’s TNT colleagues on Inside the NBA.

Finally, some good news: Sager is nearing a return. Shaun Powell of has an in-depth feature on Sager’s battle with cancer and his fight to return to work that’s worth reading, but most notable is the news that he’ll be back soon:

He does know how close he is to returning to his element, his arena. Sager will spend Thanksgiving counting blessings instead of calories and counting down the days until he holds a microphone again. He hopes to work a Spurs game. Popovich will glare at his line of questioning. That would be a thrill.

Sager will return in a striped orange suit that will cause whiplash from courtside fans and a handful of players, some of whom will howl. And that’s fine. Because when it comes to wearing outlandish attire, only a few special people can pull it off.

This is great news for everybody, and the first time Sager is forced to interview Popovich again will be appointment television. The world is a better place when Sager is on the sidelines.
