The Sacramento Kings officially filed a protest to the NBA of their last-second Thursday loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, arguing that Courtney Lee’s game-winning layup should not have counted.
Now, Grizzlies GM Chris Wallace has fired back at the Kings, expressing his confidence that the Grizzlies’ win will be upheld. From Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski:
“The officials made the correct call on the play that ended the game on Thursday,” Wallace told Yahoo Sports on Monday. “Then the officials followed league procedure and reviewed the conclusive footage provided by the state-of-the-art NBA replay center.
“After a thorough review, the play was correctly upheld. The inbounds pass was not tipped and Courtney Lee did get his shot off in time. The league even posted conclusive video footage supporting the call on its replay website.
“We are confident that the NBA will uphold the game result regardless of the media campaigned being waged.”
Wallace is probably right. The officials had plenty of camera angles with which to review the call at the time and still upheld Lee’s basket. It’s extremely unlikely the result of the game will actually be changed.
