DeMarcus Cousins restrains his coach from confronting officials after he fouls out of win over Suns

The Kings improved to 5-1 on the young season after erasing a double-digit fourth quarter deficit in Phoenix on Friday, and coming away with a double-overtime victory against the Suns.

DeMarcus Cousins fouled out near the end of regulation, however, and was forced to watch the two overtime sessions from the bench.

He was whistled for a foul after setting a screen that decked Marcus Morris, and the call appeared to be dubious, at best. At least the referees were being consistent, because they fouled out Markieff Morris earlier in the period on a similarly questionable call. But Kings coach Mike Malone was upset nonetheless, to the point where Cousins had to physically restrain him from going after the officials once he headed to the bench.

There have been 38 players to receive technical fouls to this point in the season, but Cousins has not yet been one of them. Seeing him act as the calming presence in a heated situation is definitely unusual, but at least for now, it appears as though he’s taking his offseason goal quite seriously.
