Last season, LeBron James complained the Heat – then the defending NBA champions – were playing on the road on Christmas.
The previous four defending champions had Christmas home games, and LeBron thought the Heat were entitled to stay home for the holiday by rule.
Not announced, but also in effect, according to sources: The NBA champion gets to stay home for Christmas.
Previously, defending champions were sent all over for Christmas games:
- Home: 23
- Road: 20
- None: 24
So, this is a nice perk for the title winner. The Spurs, who host the Thunder on Dec. 25, will be the first to take advantage of the new policy.
