Minnesota has reportedly offered four years, $48 million.
Ricky Rubio and his agent want a fifth year, which can only come with a max offer.
And so the talks about getting Rubio an extension to his rookie contract before the Oct. 31 deadline are going nowhere. The latest person to confirm this is Charlie Walters of the Pioneer Press.
That little birdie talks to everyone.
There is a chance that Minnesota moves up to four/$50 million (figuring that contract number doesn’t look as bad once the new television deal money stars coming in) and there is a chance Rubio balks and takes it.
But not a good chance.
More than likely Rubio is headed to restricted free agency next summer and the market will set his number. Likely short of the number he thinks he’s worth.
