Kevin Durant may be the purest scorer in the game today, and on the majority of his team’s possessions, he could easily justify being the one who ends up taking the shot.
But just as advanced statisticians have come to value efficiency over volume shooting, Durant has come to have a similar appreciation of picking his spots in order to be as successful as possible.
“Let’s say you have 40 apples on your tree,” says Durant, via Nike’s release detailing the qualities of the KD7 “Good Apples” colorway. “I could eat about 30 of them, but I’ve begun limiting myself to 15 or 16. Let’s take the wide-open three and post-up at the nail. Those are good apples. Let’s throw out the pull-up three in transition and the step-back fade away. Those are rotten apples.”
Signature shoes for the games best players often have intricately detailed stories behind each colorway. It’s nice to hear the athletes explain those in their own words, and Durant does an excellent job of that in the video clip above.
