Nuggets sign forward Marcus Williams

Marcus Williams has the Spurs’ seal of approval.

Sort of.

San Antonio drafted Williams No. 33 out of Arizona in 2007. The Spurs signed him twice that year, including once for only the preseason. After he finished the season with the Clippers, San Antonio signed him again the following year.

Williams has totaled just 39 NBA minutes, but considering the Spurs’ incredible track record, it’s easy – rightly or wrongly – to give anyone they’ve circled the benefit of the doubt. What did they see in Williams?

The Nuggets want to know for themselves.

Shams Charania of RealGM:

Will Williams – not to be confused with someone of the same name who played at Connecticut and for the Nets, Warriors and Grizzlies from 2006-10 – make Denver’s roster?

It’s not clear what type of guarantee Williams received, but even without one, the forward has a chance.

The Nuggets have 13 players with guaranteed contracts plus Quincy Miller ($150,000 guaranteed), Erick Green ($50,000 guaranteed) and Jerrelle Benimon ($35,000 guaranteed). So, a couple roster spots are up for grabs.
