No questions for Erik Spoelstra before Game 5 vs. Nets (VIDEO)

NBA head coaches are required to be available to the media anywhere between 90 to 105 minutes prior to each game, and the procedure is even formal during the playoffs, when many more media members are in attendance and coaches for both teams are required to take the podium in an interview room set up specifically for this purpose.

Prior to Wednesday night’s Game 5 between the Heat and the Nets in Miami, however, Erik Spoelstra emerged unscathed.

Not one of the media members in attendance had a question for Spoelstra, so after sitting up there for a few seconds and surveying the scene, a big smile emerged and he gave two thumbs up as he left, realizing he was off the hook for one night of engaging in what at times can be a tedious task.

Before you’re too quick to jump on reporters for being lazy or unprepared, at least be aware that the more prominent ones in the room likely to ask the questions already did so at the morning shootaround. And since nothing’s changed in the last eight hours or so, there was no need to pursue any updates of interest.
