Quote of the Day: Nene says Wizards’ youngsters must get their “heads out their butts”

“They have great players, a great team, but the way they execute things, the way they cut, the way they exploit weaknesses, swing the ball. They don’t think about stats. We still think about stats. Our young guys must take their heads out their butts and play the right way, because I’m getting tired of this.”

—Nene of the Washington Wizards comparing his team with the San Antonio Spurs, via the Washington Post.

San Antonio’s execution and committment to the system frustrates a lot of opponents. Nene was wrong with the statement he made before this that the Wizards have more talent than the Spurs — Tony Parker, Tim Duncan and Kawhi Leonard are better than anyone on Washington’s roster — but the selfless play of San Antonio makes those guys that much more dangerous and hard to stop.

Washington is 2-6 to start the season with a bottom 10 offense and defense. For a team where the owner was demanding the playoffs this season coach Randy Wittman and the front office should be worried. Still, it really comes back to John Wall shooting 37.9 percent this season and how rarely the Wizards are getting to the line.
