Shane Larkin’s ankle healed, he is ready for Mavericks camp

It’s good for rookie Shane Larkin that he is going to be ready to go for Dallas’ training camp when it opens in a couple weeks, because that is going to be his best chance to get some court time.

Larkin, who was drafted No. 18 out of the University of Miami, broke his ankle during a summer League practice back in July.

It was a two to three month recovery window and he seems to be on the front end of that curve reports Tim Reynolds of the AP.

Larkin, the son of baseball Hall of Famer Barry Larkin, is an athletic point guard who can both drive the lane and has a nice jump shot. He’s a guy teams thought could develop into a solid rotation player.

But he may be doing that developing on the bench and in the D-League this season as Dallas is loaded at the point. They will start Jose Calderon and behind him have Devin Harris and rookie Gal Mekel who has been the MVP of the Israeli league and had a strong showing at Summer League.

Larkin needed to be right for training camp to make his case for minutes in that mix.
