Zelmo Beaty, former NBA and ABA All-Star, dies at age 73

Zelmo Beaty was not a big man for a guy who made his living inside (he was officially 6’9″, smaller than Bill Russell, Bob Lanier, Willis Reed, Wilt Chamberlain and other centers of the same era) but he knew how to score — he averaged 17.1 points a game over the course of his NBA and ABA career, and he was a five time All-Star (twice in the NBA, three times in the ABA). He helped lead the Utah Stars to the 1971 ABA title.

Beaty passed away Aug. 27 at the age of 73. Our thoughts are with his friends and family.
