Pacers’ Chris Copeland has knee scoped, out 6-8 weeks

Indiana made a smart move in signing former Knick Chris Copeland to come off their bench as a stretch four next season.

Now they may not have him at the start of camp as he comes back from knee surgery. Copeland had “arthroscopic surgery on his left knee to remove a loose body” the Pacers announced on Friday.

Copeland will be out six to eight weeks, which would have him returning right around the start of training camp. This is a pretty standard surgery. Even if he misses a few days or has to be eased back, he should be good to go by the start of the season a month later.

Copeland averaged 8.7 points a game and shot 42.1 percent from three in the regular season last year for the Knicks. He brought good size and energy to the front line. With the Pacers, he’ll be asked to do those same things and will have a very defined role (Mike Woodson seemed unsure what to do with him in the playoffs).
