Report: Austin Daye reaches two-year deal with Raptors

On the bright side, last season Austin Daye stopped his trend of getting worse and worse each season he was in the league. He wasn’t great — a PER of 12.9, below the league average — but he was knocking down threes at a 41.8 percent clip.

Which is why he gets a chance to see if he can take another step forward with the Raptors — he has reached a two-year, $2 million deal with the team, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.

Daye was drafted by Detroit out of Gonzaga and had been with the Pistons for three-and-a-half seasons until he was shipped to Memphis last year as part of the Rudy Gay trade.

The 6’11” Daye could have value for the Raptors as a backup stretch four if he keeps hitting his threes. His inconsistency and lack of defense could remind Toronto fans of another stretch four they just got rid of, one that was not all that popular north of the border, but maybe Daye’s game has matured and he can find a role with Toronto.
