Sixers receive permission to interview Heat assistant coach David Fizdale

The Philadelphia 76ers are the lone NBA team without a head coach at this relatively late stage of the offseason, but it appears as though the search is intensifying.

From Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports:

The Philadelphia 76ers have received permission to interview Miami Heat assistant coach David Fizdale for their head coach opening, sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Fizdale has been with the Miami Heat the past five seasons, which has included three NBA Finals trips and two championships. His responsibilities with the Heat included scouting, player development and game preparation.

The former University of San Diego basketball player spent the previous five seasons as an assistant with the Golden State Warriors and the Atlanta Hawks.

Fizdale will be the fourth NBA assistant coach recently added to the list of those in the running for the job in Philadelphia.

Celtics assistant Jay Larranaga, along with Bulls assistants Ed Pinckney and Adrian Griffin, are all reportedly being considered.

The lack of big names or retreads on the list speaks to the state of things with the Sixers heading into next season. In a rebuilding situation, it makes sense to bring in a younger head coaching candidate that has the patience to teach and develop at the NBA level — a quality that is possessed by each of these candidates.
