If a team drafts a player in the first round of the NBA, they are basically locked into him for at least a couple years and maybe four our more if they like him.
But if you don’t like the guy, that’s guaranteed money and a roster spot that could be used better elsewhere.
Which is why the Denver Nuggets are looking to move their No. 27 pick, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports. And the Nuggets are not alone.
Look at the guys going in the mid-to-late 20s and you have Tony Mitchell, Jeff Withey, Lucas Noqueira and other guys you may well not want on the roster in three years. Yes, some of these guys will pan out into solid players, but there is more risk in this group this year than in most, and GMs are risk averse in these kinds of situations.
Which is to say, expect a lot of trades as we move on in the first round of Thursday night’s NBA Draft.
