Nets formally request permission to interview Lionel Hollins

Lionel Hollins reportedly has permission to interview with other teams, but the Nets are crossing their Ts and dotting there Is, because those tampering fines can get expensive. (Brooklyn’s luxury-tax bill will cost enough.)

Marc Stein of ESPN:

Brooklyn Nets, according to NBA coaching sources, have today formally requested permission to interview Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins

If the Grizzlies want to keep Hollins, they’re giving him quite a bit of professional courtesy. He’s under contract through June 30, which could Memphis could use as leverage. That long of a wait would surely dissuade some teams from waiting for just the chance to interview Hollins – though the Nets might want Hollins that badly, anyway.

More likely, the Grizzlies don’t want to keep him. In that case, the courtesy they’re extended him is still nice but essentially falls in line with basic expectations of decency.
