Mario Chalmers’ grab around the neck of Joakim Noah from Game 2 upgraded to a flagrant foul (VIDEO)

The fallout from the physical Game 2 between the Bulls and the Heat continues, as this shot to the neck of Joakim Noah delivered by Mario Chalmers in the third quarter has been reviewed by the league and upgraded to a flagrant foul.

While the review is nice, these are the types of plays I wouldn’t mind seeing punished much more harshly at the time they occur, and I’d even go as far as to say this one should have resulted in an immediate ejection.

Why? We talked about it a bit on the podcast. This is not a basketball play, and is only meant to injure or intimidate. It’s made worse in context, after so much had happened already in the first half.

Moreover, the game was effectively over with Miami leading by 26 points at the time — making this play, which took place on a screen a good 25 feet from the basket, completely unnecessary.
