The Cavaliers seem intent on hiring a former Lakers coach, and their search has most prominently included two with very different experiences in Los Angeles.
One was fired after 1-4 start to his second season. The other won five championships.
Dan Gilbert met with Mike Brown on Sunday night, according to WKYC Channel 3, and the Cavaliers have reached out to Phil Jackson, according to Brian Windhorst and Marc Stein of ESPN.
Jackson would obviously make a much bigger sizzle, but it’s an extreme longshot Cleveland lures him out of retirement. Brown is as much of a re-tread as a coach can be, but he brings solid defensive concepts and a comfort level.
For the Cavaliers, there’s no harm in trying, but they’ll very likely be settling.
