In case the 4,871 other times you read that the Celtics are unlikely to trade Paul Pierce or Kevin Garnett didn’t sink in, here is one more. This should do it.
First, there is what Celtics President and decision maker Danny Ainge told ESPNBoston.com.
“Yeah, I think that’s by far the most likely thing. Sure,” Ainge said (when asked if his two stars would remain Celtics). “I’ll just repeat what I always tell you guys — the things that are out there are the things that aren’t true and the things that are happening are not being reported.”
Then there is this from Kevin Garnett himself saying once again he wants to retire a Celtic. This time via the Boston Globe after the Celtics dismantled the Lakers Thursday.
“I just want to say that I love my situation here,” said Garnett. “I don’t know what all your sources are, or whoever’s making up this [expletive] articles about me getting traded to Denver and all these other places.
“But I bleed green, and I will continue to do that. And if it’s up to me I’m going to retire a Celtic.”
And he has a no trade clause. KG has say in the matter.
With the news Rajon Rondo should be back sooner rather than later — and by sooner we mean the start of next season — Ainge may simply decide that his best move is to get the band back together for one more year, one more try. Next season, with everyone healthy.
If someone comes with an offer that blows his doors off, Ainge may change that plan. But for right now, for this trade deadline, don’t look for Boston to make a grand move. That’s what they keep telling you.
