These are the guys you pay to come see. The guys whose jerseys are littered throughout the stands. The guys who will be in the all-star game come February. Every night a team’s star is supposed to step up big and help his team to victory. Tonight, our three stars represent that to the fullest. Well, except for the guy who lost. But we’ll get to him in a second…
Third Star: Kobe Bryant (40 points, 10 rebounds, 10 turnovers)
Not the type of triple double you want there, Kobe. His 10 turnovers definitely hurt the Lakers tonight as most of them were ball handling errors that the Pacers took the other way for an easy two points. But besides those miscues, a flu ridden Kobe Bryant kept the Lakers in the game all night. He willed himself to the foul line, picked out teammates for open shots (that they didn’t knock down), and hit several big shots that had the Lakers in position to win a game they had no business winning. His 40th point came on a game tying three pointer that was erased one possession later by George Hill’s game winning lay in. But while Hill was the hero, Kobe is still tonight’s star.

Second Star: James Harden (24 points, 12 assists, 6 rebounds)
What else can really be said about the Beard at this point? Since arriving from Houston he’s had more games like this one than not, and continues to carry the Rockets offensively each night. Harden wasn’t alone in this game (Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik also played very well) as the Rockets came out playing inspired ball in support of their grieving head coach, but he definitely stood out the most. While Harden was the star, the play of the night (at least from the Rockets) was this sweet role reversal fast break where Asik handled the ball and Lin hit the sweet reverse lay-in.

First Star: Kevin Love (23 points, 24 rebounds)
The Timberwolves needed a win badly after dropping 5 consecutive games heading into their contest in Sacramento against the Kings. Enter Kevin Love who put his team on his back with his first (and certainly not his last) 20/20 game of the season. Love’s outside shot wasn’t falling (2-8 from behind the arc) but that didn’t matter much as he still was able to get to work inside by hitting 4 of his 5 shots in the restricted area (contributing to the ‘Wolves 46 points in the paint).
