Doug Collins’ comments on trade of Iguodala for Bynum

Doug Collins is in London as part of the NBC broadcast team coving the Olympics, specifically the semi-final games Friday (Russia vs. Spain, USA vs. Argentina).

He’s also the coach of the Philadelphia 76ers, one of the four teams involved in the blockbuster Dwight Howard trade. The Sixers get former Lakers big man Andrew Bynum and the Magic’s Jason Richardson, but have to give up Andre Iguodala.

You can’t have Collins on the broadcast and not ask about it. He was well prepared with his answer and hit it safely down the middle of the fairway. Here is what he said.

“When you think about adding Andrew Bynum, a big man who can score in the paint, rebound and block shots — something we desperately needed — and Jason Richardson adds another shooter to our lineup, so I’m very excited.

“On the flip side of that you have to trade somebody and Andre Iguodala had a brilliant career for the Philadelphia 76ers. I coached him for two years, he helped me win a lot of games. I’m very, very appreciative of him and I wish him well in Denver.”
