Doc Rivers considering sitting Ray Allen to rest ankle

It’s not fun to watch.

Ray Allen is one of the best pure shooters the game has ever seen, but trying to play through bone spurs in his ankle that likely needs surgery has left his flawless mechanics off balance. He was 1-7 in Game 1 and Boston needs him (or someone) to knock down those open looks.

Doc Rivers is considering some radical options to deal with Allen’s woes, which have him shooting just 39 percent for the playoffs. Via ESPNBoston.com.

“It’s a tough call with him,” Rivers said Tuesday afternoon. “We’re trying to figure out a different minute rotation for him, maybe that will help him. We’re even considering sitting him for a game, getting him a longer rest and then playing him, and then sitting him for a game. We don’t know what the right thing is.”

The problem is the right thing is surgery and recovery, or at least months off.

Which Boston may have really soon if they don’t get more shots to fall soon.
