As expected, the Nets poor trade for Gerald Wallace is coming home to roost.
Wallace — for whom the Nets traded their first round pick in this deep draft (top three protected) — will seek free agency, according to the twitter of Stephen Bondy of the New York Daily News.
Gerald Wallace says he’ll test free agency. He has a one year player option worth 9.5 million with incentives
He may not get that much in a single year as a free agent, but this is a guy who averaged 15.2 points and 6.8 rebounds a game for the Nets, shot 38 percent from three and can defend. He is a good swingman and he will get multiple teams willing to offer him multiple years.
The Nets say they want to keep him, but that will not be easy. They are expected to retain Brook Lopez (a restricted free agent) and do everything they can to get Deron Williams to stay. Wallace may not fit in that plan.
Was that worth the pick? I just don’t get it.
