Rockets Patrick Patterson fined for tweet ripping referees

Note to NBA players: Putting something out twitter is pretty much the same as telling something to a reporter after the game. At least it is in the eyes of the NBA league office.

Most importantly, it is the same thing in the eyes of NBA VP Stu Jackson, the guy doles out the fines.

Houston’s Patrick Patterson was fined $25,000 Monday for the tweet you see below (via The Dream Shake, the actual tweet has been removed).

I’m not going to get into the validity of the complaints, it’s moot. Whether the player is right or wrong on the incident you cannot say anything about the officials or the league will fine you. They do not want the players or coaches to undermine the integrity of the officiating (insert your own joke here if you want, that’s the reasoning).

If you don’t think that extends to twitter, you can now ask Patterson.
