Celtics’ Chris Wilcox out for season with heart condition

It has been a rough season for the Celtics when it comes to rare heart conditions.

Chris Wilcox, the journeyman backup big who has given Boston quality minutes in recent weeks, is out for the season because he will undergo aortic surgery in a couple weeks, reports A. Sherrod Blakely at CSNNE.com.

Wilcox had a series of routine tests conducted that were related to his heart. The findings raised a red flag, and additional tests had to be performed.

“The doctors said I’m done for this year,” Wilcox said.

The abnormality is something that Wilcox has played through during his 10-year NBA career and the Celtics were aware of it when they signed him. However, as a precaution, they scheduled more heart tests for him during the season. A recent test raised a red flag.

Jeff Green, who was to be the Celtics sixth man this season this year, has had to miss the entire season due to a heart condition.
