Celtics finding other teams interested in Ray Allen

Welcome to the world of breaking up your team, Celtics fans.

Fans are talking about trading Rajon Rondo or Paul Pierce for a big piece that can jump start the rebuilding, but that is not who other teams are calling about, reports the Sporting News.

While there has been plenty of focus on Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo, sources indicate Allen has generated the most interest from contenders. He is a knock-down perimeter shooter and a veteran who can blend well with any team. Even at age 36, Allen is in great shape and, as a free agent after the season, an easy fit into a team’s books.

The Celtics don’t want to trade Allen, but if they continue to slide and are offered a young piece or a draft pick, making a deal would be hard to resist.

Allen is still a knock-down outside shooter — 48.5 percent from three this season — who can instantly fit in any system because he works off the ball. He has an expiring contract. He also takes very good care of himself and at age 36 can probably play another year or two.

You can see why other teams want him, and why Boston doesn’t want to move him. But if a really good offer comes in, can a Celtics team that needs to start to rebuild say no?
