Timberwolves owner says team may keep No. 2 pick

The scuttlebutt is that GM David Kahn and the Minnesota Timberwolves are shopping the No. 2 pick hard. Other teams say the Wolves are asking for the moon, but the pick is available. Kahn of course has said that no decision has been made, options are being explored.

But Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor sounded more like a guy who wanted to keep likely No. 2 pick Derrick Williams. Or Enes Kanter. Or whomever becomes that pick.

This is what he told the Star Tribune:

“I think it’s most likely we’ll keep [the pick] … but we’re open to look at a trade,” said Taylor, who will let Kahn make the final decision. “But most likely we’ll keep [the player who is drafted]. I just think when you get a pick that high, you would want to keep it for the future.”

Now, if you were shopping the pick, this is exactly what you should say. But it sounds more and more like Minnesota wants a lot for that pick or they may just keep it.

Also in that interview, Taylor says Kahn will decide the fate of coach Kurt Rambis but has not decided yet, and that he hopes to avoid a lockout. So, he danced around the hard questions.
