NBA increases security at playoff games due to terror alert level

With the death of Osama bin Laden, the national terror alert level went up due to concerns about a retaliatory strike.

Among the potential terrorist targets are NBA games, which saw an increased level of security starting Tuesday.

It was very evident at Staples Center for the first game of the Lakers/Mavericks, where the police presence and the number of police dogs were noticeably higher than even previous playoffs games (or finals games, as memory serves).

The NBA mandated metal detectors at every gate for fans, something that had to be put in at the United Center for the Bulls game Tuesday.

These measures will remain in place through the playoffs, the league announced.
