Piston’s coach says team “starting over,” throws every position open

Well, this should solve all their problems.

Piston’s coach John Kuester has thrown every position — starting and off the bench — open to competition, he told the Detroit News.

“That’s what I said to the team yesterday,” the Pistons’ coach said Tuesday before the morning shootaround at the Bradley Center. “All starting positions, all substitution positions (are open). We have to get after it.”

“The way we practice, the way we do shootarounds will dictate who plays and who doesn’t,” Kuester said….

With all the recent drama surrounding his team, Kuester hopes the clean slate he’s given the players will result in them playing hard — as they did in Saturday’s comeback win against Utah — and without pressure.

Without pressure? Except for the “you don’t play part if I don’t like how you’re playing” part.

The real test: Is this open to Rip Hamilton? Can he win back a starting job?

Who knows how this will turn out, but shaking up the rotations on a team already clearly unhappy with the coach has the potential to go very poorly. Like the rest of the Pistons’ season. I get his desire to get the team to play hard the rest of the way, it’s just that boat may have sailed.
