D-League play would continue if lockout occurs

According to Marc Stein of ESPN.com, the NBA D-League would not shut down if a lockout takes place and prevents NBA basketball from being played next season:

Deputy commissioner Adam Silver told ESPN.com that an NBA work stoppage next fall would not prevent the league from keeping its 16-team minor league, known as the D-League, operational.

“We intend to operate the NBA Development League next season independent of the status of NBA collective bargaining,” Silver said.

D-League salaries range from $13,000 to $25,000, so don’t expect NBA players ending up on a D-League roster if a lockout occurs — European teams pay far more. Still, if you live in a D-League city or love watching players develop in the minor leagues, it’s good to know that there will be professional basketball played in America next season.
