Ben Gordon was determined to play for Great Britain in this summer’s Eurobasket qualifier. He had committed, even after surgery. It’s something Gordon had wanted to do for years, but never had the real chance to because of mitigating circumstances. This year, however, he was on track.
Yeah, not so much.
The Detroit Free Press reports that due to his rehab progress from ankle surgery not going as well as could be hoped, Gordon will miss the Eurobasket play this summer as well.
Bummer.
As frustrating as it must be for both Gordon and Britain’s coaches, you have to feel like it’s the right move. Gordon signed for big money with the Pistons last summer, and then fell off into injury oblivion along with the rest of the team, the mascot, and we’re pretty sure the concession salespeople. Everyone was hurt in Detroit last year. In order to capitalize on what he was given that big payday to do, Gordon has to be healthy.
Even with Gordon missing the qualifier, Piston fans have to be nervous. Gordon just had ankle surgery and is recovering slowly. That’s just not the kind of news you want coming out of your summer in a year you hope to rebound considerably from a disastrous 2009-2010 campaign.
