You’ll remember when the MRI confirmed an Achilles strain for Andrew Bynum that the original diagnosis was two weeks for his return.
Two weeks was yesterday.
So reporters checked in with his doctor regarding his progress. The progress? Bynum’s not even cleared for running or jumping.
The playoffs are around the corner. But this Lakers team is so loaded, they can win every round without Bynum. So it’s better to take the time to make sure he heals correctly. Then again, Bynum has a long history of taking his time getting back.
When Bynum had his first major knee injury two seasons ago, he missed multiple return dates, opting for his own doctor, and it stretched from a mid-March return to being out for the season. Last year, he went through a less serious ordeal, but still one that lasted longer than expected.
There’s really no telling when Bynum will be back. But as the playoffs get deeper, the Lakers’ need for him will be greater.
