According to Brian Windhorst, Anderson Varejao did not practice with the Cleveland Cavaliers today and will likely not play against the Milwaukee Bucks when the Cavs play them on Wednesday. This would be the second full game Varejao would miss due to a sore left hamstring, which caused him to miss the second half of last Friday’s game against the Spurs.
Varejao is only averaging 8.7 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, but his defense, rebounding, energy, and chemistry with LeBron James on offense have made him invaluable to the Cavaliers. Assuming Varejao’s injury isn’t more serious than he’s letting on, the Cavaliers are probably doing the right thing by not rushing him back. The Cavaliers don’t have much left to play for in the regular season, and at this point are looking to make sure that everyone is healthy and ready to go for perhaps the most important playoff run in franchise history.
