Former NBA player and Michigan State star Mateen Cleaves was in the news recently for returning to the NBA as a broadcaster for the Detroit Pistons. Now he finds himself in the news for a different reason. According to the Associated Press, Cleaves was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving on Saturday. From the article:
The Genesee County sheriff’s department says Cleaves was arrested Saturday in Mount Morris Township and jailed in nearby Flint before being released.Cleaves’ lawyer Frank Manley told The Flint Journal his client drove because of an emergency involving his son and doesn’t promote “any driving that’s not considered safe.”
If Cleaves is telling the truth, this may be nothing more than an unfortunate misunderstanding. If not, that’s a different matter, but hopefully he would accept his punishment and move forward if he were to be found guilty.
